Do Fairy Tale Love Stories Really Exist?
From the desk of RD
We grow up watching dreamy Bollywood romances and magical Disney movies, often believing in the idea of the perfect love story — the prince charming who will sweep us off our feet. But somewhere along the way, we forget that real relationships are far from perfect. They’re not scripted fairy tales; they’re messy, complicated, and full of ups and downs.
There will be times when we don’t see eye to eye with our partners. Today, it’s so easy to throw in the towel at the first sign of trouble because the concept of compromise seems to be fading. Dating apps, social media, and instant communication make it feel like we can replace someone in seconds. Convenience has replaced commitment.
That’s not to say that anyone should stay in a toxic or abusive relationship. Respect and safety are non-negotiable. But in many cases, the lack of patience, effort, or willingness to work through differences is what ends relationships — not the absence of love.
None of us come with instruction manuals. The journey of building a life with someone will be bumpy. It requires effort, communication, and a deep understanding that no one is perfect.
Taking responsibility — even for a small part of a conflict — can be incredibly healing. It opens the door for growth, deeper connection, and repair. Sometimes, it’s not about finding the perfect person. It’s about being willing to grow with someone, imperfections and all.
Maybe fairy tales do exist…
Just not the way we were told.
